As a Minister, there is no greater pleasure than seeing a Bill which you care so strongly for, progressing through Parliament.
Today, I had the honour of debating the Lifelong Learning Bill in its final stages in the House of Commons. This Bill and the Lifelong Loan Entitlement (LLE) will revolutionise the skills landscape and provide a ladder of opportunity to those looking to progress in their careers.
From 2025, students will be able to apply for a loan worth the equivalent of four years of post-18 education, which can be used flexibly over their working lives to pay for full or part-time study. This will allow adults to retrain and upskill later in life in a way that suits them whilst meeting the demands of nation.
