This Conservative Government is delivering safer streets for Harlow people
We have delivered over 20,000 new police officers, cut neighbourhood crime by almost 50% and slashed violent crime by almost 40%. Now, the Conservative Government is launching a new attack on fraud, implementing new measures to drive down the UK's most prevalent crime.
Fraud is not a victimless crime. Every year, some of the most vulnerable people in our communities lose thousands of pounds through cold calls, scam texts and fake advertising. As well as losing their hard-earned money, victims also lose their confidence with many also suffering mental health issues as a result of this despicable crime.
This Government has made fighting fraud a priority for police forces, but victims must know that the police will do something to tackle fraud when reported. That's why the Government has set out new measures to crack down on fraudulent crimes:
Working with telecommunications companies to end cold calls and scam texts.
£100 million to establish a new National Fraud Squad, to tackle fraudulent crimes all over the world and review penalties and sentences for fraudsters.
Changing the law so more victims get their money back from their bank and making it easier to report fraud online.
Fraudsters all over the world must know that if you commit a fraud against members of the British public then you will be caught. These measures will prevent people’s hard-earned money falling into the hands of criminals, give greater protections to victims and see more fraudsters brought to justice.
