I strongly welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to prioritise the NHS and cut waiting lists, with one of the fastest improvements in emergency waiting times in the history of the NHS, making sure Harlow people can access the care they need, faster, and closer to home.
The Prime Minister has announced an extra £1 billion funding through the Urgent and Emergency Care Plan, fixing A&E and ambulance waiting times over the next two years:
🚑 800 new ambulances to cut ambulance wait times
🏥 5,000 new hospital beds to reduce the burden on hospitals and A&E departments
👩⚕️ More staff to help cut waiting lists and clear the Covid backlog
This funding is in addition to £750 million already invested in the social care sector to speed up hospital discharges of medically fit patients and ensure they get the care they need at home and in the community.
A further £150 million, including £235,000 for Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital, was also announced last week to boost mental health services, including new specialist mental health ambulances, new facilities in hospital and more expert support available through 111 and crisis helplines.
