I had a great day out and about in the East of England yesterday, visiting colleges in my capacity as the Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education. It was great to see how so many people from across the region are accessing fantatsic skills-based learning.
First up was a visit to USP College in Canvey Island. Social justice means extending the ladder of opportunity to people from all backgrounds. I was amazed by the work of USP College to help students with SEND in supported internships to allow them to excel in the digital sector. I was particularly impressed with their state-of-the-art virtual reality facilities - modern technology is key to preparing students for the jobs of the future.
I was also delighted to join Anna Firth MP at South Essex College where I met some outstanding bricklaying students and T Level Construction students. High-quality T Levels and apprenticeships are key to launching great careers, climbing the ladder of oppourtunity and providing the skilled employees businesses need.
I was also able to visit William Morris Sixth Form, one of 239 schools to benefit from the government’s transformative school rebuilding programme. High-quality buildings and facilities are fundamental to enabling students to develop skills, gain qualifications and launch great careers.
