Local MP, Robert Halfon, is celebrating a number of Harlow-based organisations who are working hard to build an even better Harlow.
Following a busy weekend out-and-about in Harlow, Robert is delighted to have met so many generous people who are serving the town selflessly. Robert’s diary included visits to charities, local employers, religious groups and the Army Cadets.
On Friday, Robert visited Newhall Land Limited to congratulate site manager Juri for his recent win in the Pride in the Job awards. Pride in the Job awards are often recognised as the ‘Oscars of the building trade’ and recognise outstanding best practice across the construction industry. Whilst onsite, Robert was also able to meet 3 apprentices on Level 4, 5 and 6 pathways who are starting their careers and learning their trades with the firm.
Peartree Mead School hosted Mr Halfon’s next visit and treated him to a piano recital. The school has recently hosted music teacher Hayley who has volunteered to lead free instrumental lessons for children. Music is a fantastic way to boost confidence, improve mental health and help creativity to flourish in children.
Robert was also delighted to be invited to the Harlow-based charity, Streets2Homes, by its CEO, Kerrie Eastman. Kerrie and her team have already helped over 238 people in Harlow and have actively prevented over 72 cases of homelessness. Streets2Homes offers outreach and day centre services to help people from across Harlow who are at risk of homlessness. Working with local agencies and Government departments, Streets2Homes helps people to secure safe and sustainable accommodation. More recently, the charity has opened two cottages in the town to offer emergency accommodation to those in need.
Over the weekend, Mr Halfon also took part in Harlow Council’s Civic Service and joined the celebrations in Old Harlow for the annual Christmas lights switch on. After a few years of disrupted Christmases due to pandemic restrictions, being together again to celebrate the start of the festivities was a joyous occasion.
Commenting on the visits, Harlow MP Robert Halfon said, “I am always inspired by the generosity, selflessness and dedication of the people of Harlow. Time and time again, I have met people from all walks of life who show compassion to the most vulnerable in our communities.
“Whether volunteering their time to teach children new skills, working hard to provide jobs and apprenticeships for Harlow people, or providing support for somebody that would otherwise be homeless, the people of Harlow come together to champion our town.
“I love Harlow and I am proud to call Harlow my home. I work hard in Parliament to ensure support is available for those who need it the most including through strengthening the NHS, investing in education and skills, and ultimately building a better Harlow.
“I would like to thank everybody who serves the community and works hard to make Harlow a great place to live and work.”
