On Friday, the Deputy Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr Louise McKinlay, launched the “Essex levelling up roadshow” with a number of investments into Harlow. She was joined by Harlow MP, Robert Halfon, and the Leader of Harlow Council, Cllr Russell Perrin at the event in Harlow's new Innovation Park.
The announcements included:
-
£10m to support economic growth and skills development across Essex.
-
£200k for Harlow Skills Engine focused on STEM opportunities for 16-24 year olds.
-
£100k investment for an Electric Vehicle Centre at Harlow College with places open from September.
-
Launch of Harlow Futures which will work with local schools and colleges to promote learning and aspiration, develop skills and support the move into employment.
-
Extension of the Harlow ParkPlay initiative to support many more young families.
Mr Halfon strongly welcomed the announcements, he said: “It is significant that Essex County Council have chosen to launch their levelling up roadshow in Harlow and I am delighted that the launch was backed up with even more investment in our town.
“I work hard every day to secure more money for education and skills and to build an even better Harlow and these initiatives will do both of these things. The Electric Vehicle Centre and Skills Engine will create many more opportunities and apprenticeships for young people in Harlow and the Harlow Futures scheme will support thousands of young people to develop the skills they need for the aspirational jobs being created at the Enterprise Zone, UK Health Security Agency and in the many fantastic businesses across Harlow.
“With hundreds of millions for our new hospital, the Enterprise Zone, the move of the UK Health Security Agency, tens of millions more for Harlow College, the £23.7 million Town Deal, the £81 million new junction 7a and so much more, we truly are building an even better Harlow. I will continue to work hard for Harlow, champion Harlow and secure more investment for our town.”
