Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon, again stood up for Harlow's businesses in Parliament - with a question to the Leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg MP.
Mr Halfon raised the case of a beauty salon owner that he had recently met with in Old Harlow and pressed the Leader on the need to iron out the anomalies in the coronavirus guidelines.
The Leader of the House, Mr Rees-Mogg said that he understood "the frustration" of Mr Halfon "and the disappointment for all business owners affected by the re-imposition of restrictions". He went on to quote the Prime Minister who had apologised for the "anguish these measures will impose".
Mr Rees-Mogg also pledged that the Government would "continue to do everything possible to support jobs and livelihoods for the next four weeks" and thanked Harlow's businesses for "their perseverance in the face of adversity".
Commenting on his work, Mr Halfon said: “Over the past 8 months, I have been in contact with thousands of residents and businesses across our town. It is saddening to hear about the financial difficulties so many are facing and that is why I am doing everything I can to support our businesses and protect jobs.
“I am pleased that so far we have seen a financial package worth well over £130 million for our town, but I know that so many are still struggling. Just yesterday, the Chancellor announced the extension of the furlough scheme - which has so far protected over 16,000 Harlow jobs - and a more generous package for those residents who are self-employed.
“I will continue to do everything possible to get every resident and business the help they need and I would strongly advise any business facing difficulties to visit the Government help portal to access this support: www.gov.uk/business-coronavirus-support-finder.”
Businesses can find the full details on how to access the financial support on gov.uk/coronavirus or by calling the Government’s Business Support Helpline on 0800 998 1098.
