Member of Parliament for Harlow, Robert Halfon, has celebrated Small Business Saturday by recognising local firms for their commitment to Harlow and the villages.
Robert has visited three businesses from across the town this morning who have been nominated by residents for their entrepreneurship, community initiatives and passion for empowering apprentices at the start of their careers.
First up was a visit to Smiles Montessori Nursery in Newhall who won the prize for ‘Best Business with Apprentices’. The nursery has employed a number of apprentices over the last few years who have become qualified practitioners and have stayed within the business after completing their training. Robert was delighted to meet nursery manager, Julia and the nursery’s current apprentices.
Next came a trip to the Griffin Cafe in Latton Bush. Having opened about 18 months ago, Robert awarded the cafe ‘Best New Business’, with residents nominating the cafe for being a vital part of the Latton Bush community thanks to the sociable atmosphere built by manager Clare and her team.
Robert’s final calling point was to Shwe Tanning and Beauty in Old Harlow. The salon was crowned ‘Best Business’ following high praise from local people who nominated Sarah and her team for their expertise and friendly welcome. Since the end of the pandemic, Shwe has gone from strength to strength, expanding the services on offer and growing their team of beauty therapists.
Commenting on Small Business Saturday 2022, Robert said, “Not only do small businesses provide jobs and vital services for Harlow residents, but they also help to build the community spirit everybody in Harlow values and enjoys.
“I was delighted to be able to recognise Shwe Beauty, Griffin Cafe and Smiles Montessori Nursery today for their amazing work in our local community. Harlow and the villages are home to so many small businesses and it is right to celebrate their contribution to the local economy and their efforts to provide products and services local people need.
“I would like to pay tribute to all of the small businesses in Harlow and the villages who work so hard to create jobs and opportunities for Harlow people.”
