My annual Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is one of the highlights of my year. My most recent event, hosted last Friday at Harlow LeisureZone, was my biggest and best yet, with over 60 employers and almost 4,000 visitors attending.
My passion is skills and apprenticeships - it was my first ever speech in Parliament and I firmly believe everyone should be able to climb the ladder of opportunity. That’s why ensuring that everybody in Harlow has access to excellent educational opportunities, world-class jobs and superb skills training is so important to me.
From jobs within the NHS to training within a legal firm, apprenticeships in logistics and haulage to voluntary roles in the third sector, I was delighted to see such a wide range of opportunities available to the students and job seekers who attended across nearly every sector.
It was inspiring to meet children and students from Harlow College, BMAT Stem, Burnt Mill Academy and Sir Frederick Gibberd College and to hear about what they want to do when they leave school. From 3D design to nursing, civil engineering to law, it was great to hear that Harlow young people are aspirational and working hard to climb the first rung of the ladder of opportunity.
I would like to thank everybody who attended my Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, especially our generous sponsors, without whom it would not have been possible. A special thanks goes to Land Sheriffs, Stansted Airport, Greene King, Harlow College, Price Bailey, G4S Cash Solutions, HTS Group, Brakes, New Era Fuels, Radfield Home Care, Active Recruitment and White Trees Group.
