I am proud to call Harlow my home and have pledged to build an even better Harlow through millions of pounds of investment in infrastructure, housing and regeneration.
I strongly welcome Harlow Council’s work to develop and regenerate the town centre. Last week, the Council approved a £46m redevelopment of the town centre, with plans overseen by the Strawberry Star Group to regenerate derelict land and existing buildings near the Harvey Centre, opposite Market Square and on Broad Walk, East Gate and West Gate.
The redevelopment of Harlow Town Centre will deliver:
- 578 high-quality new homes
- Around 3,000 square metres of commercial, retail and community space
- A new east-west pedestrian boulevard and around 6,250 square metres of improvements to the town centre streets including 83 newly planted trees
- The redevelopment will bring in around £38m to Harlow’s local economy during the construction period
The Council has worked closely with Strawberry Star to revise and improve the plans based on feedback from local residents. The redevelopment of the town centre includes massive private investment from major land and building owners which will boost the local economy and, in turn, give the markets confidence that Harlow is a town worth investing in.
Not only do the ambitious plans provide high-quality new homes for Harlow families, but they also deliver new public spaces and commercial, leisure and retail spaces.
I would like to thank all of the councillors, officials and support staff at Harlow Council for their efforts to ensure we can build an even better Harlow.
