The Government has announced a major shake-up of Britain’s railways with a new plan to passengers first, backed by a single, familiar brand – Great British Railways – fusing the best of the public and private sector to deliver better value fares for passengers and which will ensure train operators are focused on delivering punctual, high-quality journeys with simpler and clearer prices.
Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon, has backed the plan and strongly welcomed the shift to putting passengers first and improving the services. Commenting on the announcement he said: “As MP, I have lobbied the Government and train operators such as Greater Anglia to improve services and reduce ticket prices for Harlow residents for many years.
“I strongly welcome this new way of running our train lines which will provide a far better, simpler and cheaper service for the thousands of residents who use our trains.
“It has allowed the Government to introduce new measures such as flexible season tickets to reduce the price of tickets for those people who don’t commute five days a week and ensure train companies are properly held to account for the service they provide.”
