Harlow’s Member of Parliament, Robert Halfon, has yet again slammed Royal Mail for their continued failure to deliver an acceptable standard of service across the town. Despite the hardworking postmen and women in Harlow and the interventions of Mr Halfon to date, postcode areas CM17, CM18, CM19 and CM20 are still suffering from sub-standard postal deliveries.
Commenting on the ongoing situation with Royal Mail, Robert said, “Despite the efforts of the hard working postmen and women in Harlow, Royal Mail managers continue to let down residents across the town - the service they are providing for Harlow people is simply not good enough. It is wrong that letters and parcels which have been sent are not being delivered on time, if at all, despite the correct postage being paid.
“With issues first reported early in the summer, I am incredibly disappointed that Royal Mail have still not taken appropriate action to rectify this situation. Residents in every postcode area across the town are consistently let down by Royal Mail, and this is simply unacceptable.
“I have heard countless stories from local people about missed hospital appointments, hold ups with birthday and celebration greetings and even delayed notification of speeding penalties resulting in increased fines and putting jobs at risk due to post not arriving regularly.
“It is clear to me that senior management within Royal Mail do not care enough to take the action required, instead blaming their poor performance on staff recruitment issues. The hardworking postmen and women in Harlow do not deserve to be overworked nor blamed for what seems to me to be a case of poor leadership and management.
“Despite first contacting Royal Mail in August and escalating my concerns to the Chief Executive in September, I am yet to receive a satisfactory response. I have now escalated my concerns yet again and have written to the Chair of the Board of the Royal Mail Group to request urgent action in Harlow to reinstate regular postal services and clear the ever-increasing backlog.
“I will of course continue to do everything that I can to deliver a better service from Royal Mail for Harlow people and will keep residents up-to-date as this situation develops.”
