With a brand-new and fully funded hospital due to open in Harlow by 2028, local MP Robert Halfon is doubling down on his fundraising efforts for Princess Alexandra Hospital-based charity, Harlow Hospital Radio.
On Friday 21st July 2023, Robert will dive into a sponsored swim, taking on the challenge of swimming 100 lengths to raise vital funds for the charity. With a history going back over 50 years broadcasting to the patients and staff at PAH, Harlow Hospital Radio is expanding its programme with exciting plans to extend their support to more listeners in Harlow and beyond.
Commenting on his latest fundraising endeavour, Mr Halfon said, “Harlow Hospital Radio is one of the most incredible organisations and groups of volunteers I have ever come across in Harlow. They provide a wonderful service for Princess Alexandra Hospital and have done so for many years. I want to do all I can to support them and I thought one way could be a healthy way - a sponsored swim. I will be swimming 100 lengths to raise money for Harlow Hospital Radio, and I hope readers will be able to support us!”
Harlow Hospital Radio has already launched new comedy, folk and classical music programmes and made listening even easier through smart speakers and the Alexa platform but, with a brand-new hospital due within five years, Harlow Hospital Radio are ambitious to go even further. A new studio with state-of-the-art equipment, a replacement Outside Broadcast Unit to help reach a larger audience and tell more local stories and a greater genre of programming are all in the pipeline for the radio station.
Chair of Harlow Hospital Radio, Andy Meadows welcomed the sponsored swim, saying, “2023 has become a really important year for Harlow Hospital Radio. We’re back to broadcasting many more live programmes, and we’ve just started to have an internet feed for our service, which can be listened to via our web site and also the Amazon Alexa service. HHR is 100% volunteer run, so every penny we raise goes directly to running and improving the station - when Robert kindly offered to help us with our fundraising, we were hugely grateful.”
