The Government has announced a further £1.7 million investment to upgrade Harlow College’s campus, on top of the nearly £20 million that has been secured to transform the campus in recent years.
Since 2010, Government investment has transformed the college campus into one of the best in the country, including:
- The Advanced Manufacturing Centre which is training Harlow’s young people with the skills they need for high-paid local jobs
- New Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training Centre to train Harlow’s young people in green technologies
- The South East Institute of Technology allowing Harlow’s young people to access and train with unique collaborations between employers, colleges and universities that specialise in offering high-quality Higher Technical Education and training in subjects such as advanced manufacturing, digital and cyber security, aerospace and healthcare
- A new digital media suite
- Major upgrades to the campus site and buildings
Commenting on the latest investment which will go towards the completion of a new Retrofit Construction Centre and the Institute of Technology, Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon said: “Harlow College truly is one of the best colleges in the country as I have seen for myself visiting over 100 times as MP. I have always passionately championed our college and the work they do to enable Harlow’s young people to climb the educational ladder of opportunity to secure high-skilled, high-paid jobs.
“This latest investment, on top of the near £20 million invested by the Government into the campus during my time as MP, will mean even better facilities for students and an even better college for our town.
“I will continue to work hard to champion education and skills and build an even better Harlow.”
Harlow College Principal, Karen Spencer, said: “We have been progressively upgrading our Harlow Campus to ensure it is fit for purpose and to ensure our resources reflect industry practice. Over recent years, we have invested in an Advanced manufacturing centre, a digital media suite, upgraded some of our 1940s building stock, and developed a Hybrid & Electric Vehicle centre.
“These have been with the support of the Local Enterprise partnership, Essex County Council, Harlow Council and the Department for Education. We now look forwards to opening a new Retrofit Construction Centre and an Institute of Technology. Having industry standard resources helps us best prepare our students for their future careers.”
