Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon, has strongly welcomed the flexible season ticket announced by the Government today. Under the new scheme, passengers will be able to travel on any 8 days in a 28-day period, using a ‘season ticket calculator’ to help people get the deal that best suits their needs, helping them save hundreds of pounds.
Mr Halfon said: "I have campaigned consistently in Parliament to cut the cost of commuting and just two weeks ago, the Rail Minister was in Harlow when I raised this with him. The announcement today will help to save Harlow commuters hundreds of pounds by allowing them to use their season ticket far more flexibly.
"The new flexible ticket will give commuters greater freedom and choice over their travel and I know that the thousands of residents that commute each day will strongly welcome this too.
"I also meet regularly with Greater Anglia to discuss the rail service and raise many residents' concerns directly with them to ensure that our train services continue to improve. I will continue to work hard to cut the cost of commuting and ensure Harlow residents have a cheaper, more reliable train service."
