Speaking in the House of Commons this afternoon, the Education Secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, said that the Government’s new £80 million investment into Family Hubs was inspired by a visit with Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon, in 2018 to Harlow’s Family Hub on Parnall Road.
Mr Zahawi said that it was on that visit to Harlow that he had seen the real support that Family Hubs offer families by combining “multi-agency services” into one place.
Robert Halfon MP has long campaigned for more investment into Family Hubs. He's raised the argument a number of times in Parliament and included the recommendation in a recent Education Committee report.
Commenting, Mr Halfon said: “I am delighted that the Education Secretary has highlighted the fantastic work that Harlow's Family Hub does - which he says has inspired the announcement that £80 million is being invested to roll out new Family Hubs across the country.
“The visit that he and I made in 2018 highlighted the benefit that the Hub brings to our town in terms of supporting families with a one-stop shop for parents and children and ensuring that children in Harlow have the best possible chance at climbing the ladder of opportunity.
“I have long campaigned for more investment into Family Hubs and I look forward to seeing this investment benefiting families and to visiting our own Family Hub again soon.”
